Can you name a production company in our city that can present a fashion show infused with ballerinas and aerial dancers? I bet you we can! That company is Stacy-ann Buchanan productions and it’s a name that will be around for many generations to come – promise. On April 27th we attended The Mystic Effect – a one of a kind fashion show which showcased some of Toronto’s most promising fashion designers along with the cities fiercest models and rising performers.

Guest were greeted by Red carpet at Toronto’s Revival bar and by that time, one was aware they were in for an exclusive treat. Guests were dazzled by the sexy designs of Simply Beautiful Designs, Hylton House, IME, Noir Masae, to the upscale street ware of Nise clothing and Basement Inc, to the ultra unique swimsuits of DAB. What we enjoyed most was that each designer brought a different element of fashion to the show. We fell in love with the designs by Noir Masae and Simply beautiful designs. Both different in style but they cater to women and show a sexy empowering feel. . We don’t think you need to shop at malls any longer! Toronto has their very own market of designers to appeal to your different tastes.

The night was entertained by some exciting acts including performances by a poet name King, Youneek Expressions, , Black Heart, and Bootcamp. For us the most unforgettable performance was by Rochelle Robinson whom performed to John Legends – Tonight. Her performance was unforgettable because this young lady managed to perform a soulful hip hop number to a mellow John Legend. Our most favorite part of the evening was an Aerial dance performance by Allison Hobson-Wardell. She was such a graceful dancer in the air and she wowed the audience with her effortless grace as she performed to singer the weeknd.

This month is about following your dreams NOW and we congratulate Stacy-ann on the launch of Stacy-ann Productions wishing her the very best! – She is a fine example of being in the NOW! We also want to thank her for being the change and planting a seed for many generations to reap. Keep chasing dreams.

The Mystic Effect occurs once a year and we want to encourage you to attend the next time around! Take a look at some of our behind the scene images and some of the images we were able to capture from the show! Oh and we want to shout out Hopeton who helped Stacy-ann on the production…he truly is FABULOUS – IN AND OUT!

You already know the saying ‘Time waits for no one’ and that is the message we would like to send you for the month of June. I already know you have a list filled with everything your heart desires to accomplish…right after you get your car fixed, once you get more money, when you are done school, when you taken one last fry, when your mind is more at peace…yes I can dig into more of those excuses but I’m going to leave it there.

I want you to make the attempt right now. I want you to turn to the ‘self’ that has this burning desire and I want you to tell that ‘self’ that you are going to make an attempt right now. Turn to the other ‘self’ filled with excuses and turn it off. Listen, what you sow now is what you will reap later. Therefore, if you make an attempt now and you don’t really see the results you were aiming for, then I promise you will reap it ten folds later. BUT you have to start now and you have to keep going.

Look at your list and pick one thing that resonates with your heart. What really sticks out? What is on that list that is crying for attention? Do you want to open a business? Then start your research now instead of watching TV or playing a game. Do you want to learn how to cook like a pro? Register with a class, or take a few easy lessons over YouTube. Are you trying to lose that stubborn belly weight? Start doing 50 sit ups tonight and increase day by day. Perhaps you want a car? Then open a savings account and deposite some money – forget using your five dollars on McDonald’s, put it in your savings account. Take steps every day until that dream becomes a reality. Success doesn’t happen over night because it’s something you work towards daily.

I know you want a fulfilling life and I know you want to fulfill those desires. However, nothing is going to happen if you keep putting it on the back burner. You must begin now because you deserve to have a life filled with everything you ever desired to attain.

So take out your pens and get ready to begin crossing off those dreams now!

PS…there is only 6 months until 2014…lets end the year with a BANG!

Have a fabulous month of June ladies!

Iyanla gives you 10 secrets to a life fulfilled in Essence Magazine! We also added a few of our own tips!

Organize your life – Figure out what has to be done each day, each week and each year. Then develop a system to achieve those tasks.

(SHESOFAB Tip: We keep a few organizers, calendars and sticky notes around. Keep a large calendar we call this the master calendar and keep tasks color coded eg kids, finances, events etc – also keep your smart phone agenda update with minor tasks that you may forget)

    2. Testify – Tell your story and free yourself and give other people permission to acknowledge their own story. Your story will heal you and your story will heal somebody else.

(SHESOFAB Tip: I can’t stress how important it is to free your life by speaking of things that may have hurt you in the past by speaking on it. The first time I spoke on being molested to a large audience was the first time I felt like I have overcome a hindrance. Everything began to make sense and life began to flow. Not to mention other women were empowered and began to speak out.

3. Find your purpose – Your bank account is not who you are. Our deepest desires and out course in life will ultimately lead us to our purpose. Keep your relationship with God open and he will reveal your purpose and line everything up.

(SHESOFAB Tip: Still trying to figure out your purpose? Think about what truly brings you happiness. Thins about something you do naturally well. Think about something you would do for free and it would bring you pleasure)

4. Set Boundaries – We usually don’t have specific boundaries and we have expectations that we font voice. In all relationships with others, let them know up front your goals in the situation. Enforce your right to be respected.

(SHESOFAB Tip: Refrain from being apologetic towards your needs. In today’s culture it’s easy for us to be subjected by what everyone else is doing. If it doesn’t feel right for you, don’t do it and make no apologies nor excuses for your right.

5. Strengthen your ties – What will support any relationship is clear, complete, and conscious conversations when upsets or breakdowns occur. Every relationship is for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. In all relationships we are giving and receiving, she when what we came to give has been given or what we came to receive has been received the relationship is going to experience transition.

(SHESOFAB Tip: Relationships must add a sense of value to your life, it should not take the value out of your life)

6. Elevate your ancestors – We have a choice: either live our ancestors power or live their wounds. We all have the power to move our generations forward.

(SHESOFAB Tip: Start asking your family about your family history, you will be surprised to find out what you can learn)

7. Prepare for Love – Make closure with your past. Make time for love in your life. Be clear about what you want. Be willing to share all of who you are – that means the woman under the weave, the spanx, the lashes, the woman with the cellulite etc – be you!

(SHESOFAB Tip – Be open because you never know what you could have missed out on)

8. Perfect saying no – We usually don’t say no because the person has something we think we need or want. The more you say no the more it comes naturally.

(SHESOFAB Tip: Please read number 4)

9. Find a mentor circle – Every woman is a midwife to the women coming behind her. You pull those women through life. You demonstrate what is possible for them in life. You need mentors and people in your life to sustain you. You are also responsible for offering support to those coming behind you.

(SHESOFAB Tip: Although we are in awe at this simple point, we encourage you to have a mentor. Remember mentors don’t always know you are mentoring them but you know they are mentoring you)

10. Celebrate your success – We live in a society that takes us from one thing to the next without a clear assessment of the lessons pitfalls and challenges. When we take a moment to acknowledge our achievements, big and small, then we can look back at them and know what is possible. Pause and say yeah, I did that. I can do that and even more.

(SHESOFAB Tip: Always show yourself gratification. If you don’t, who will?)

Welcome to February! Here at SSF we are still embracing the new year and planning a few exciting things just for you! We hope you are also keeping the momentum going by embracing all the great things coming your way this year.

It is so easy to get side tracked and forget that superwoman feeling you had once the clock stroked 12 and you welcomed in 2013. I bet you felt brand new like a champion who already knew success was at your doorstep. Like all of us, you are human (a fabulous one) and you just might get a wave of relapse and forget that superwoman champion feeling. However, that’s why SHESOFAB is here! To keep you going and make sure you stay on the path to success in every single area of your life.

When it comes to your success I want you to live it, eat it, breathe it, and know it. Aim to make your success and the things you desire part of your everyday lifestyle. You want to go back to school? Then put it out to the word, get encouragement, research new courses and make it happen. Looking to get into the best shape of your life? Trying to change your attitude? Need to make more money? These are some of the things you may have aimed for this year…all you have to do is practice it every day, learn the values, seek guidance and make it become part of you. On those days when you feel like pulling the sheets over your head because of whatever has you down just think again. Remember the bigger picture and the reason you have come this far.

This month we will be celebrating black history month by featuring a variety of fabulous black women who have made a difference in history. I will leave you with a very special quote from Betty Shabazz, it sums up the message we want to convey this month.

“We can say “Peace on Earth.” We can sing about it, preach about it or pray about it, but if we have not internalized the mythology to make it happen inside us, then it will not be.” – Betty Shabazz

This months key to success: Take small steps it builds towards bigger outcomes.

Looking forward: In March we will introduce ‘Men who love us’ and ‘The Woman 2 Woman show’ if you have a relationship question or need some advice on something just email us at info@shesofab.com do you know a woman or guy who should be featured on SHESOFAB? Let us know at info@shesofab.com

If you have a special valentines story we want to hear about it! email us at info@shesofab.com

This month we are celebrating life, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting woman to represent our theme this month! I want to Introduce to you, Flower Pryce, a fierce woman, mother, wife, sister, daughter. This woman is not only excited about life, she appreciates the people she meets. I met Flower earlier this year and I must say I met a wonderful woman who is genuine at heart. I hope you enjoy reading about her and her fabulous business!

Name: Flower Pryce

Age: Unpredictable, getting younger each year Aug 24 is my birthday!

Education: Uof T English Literature

Location: Toronto to da World

Company Name: Invisible Love Jewelry

Years active: 6 years

List some interesting facts about your business.

Some of my pieces are made to look invisible against the skin, hence the name of my company. However, that is not the only reason for the name of the company. I started this business after a break up. I didn’t want to call my ex, his love was invisible to me and I wanted to stay busy. So I went to a random bead store got a whole bunch of stuff and started creating. I had all this “stuff” sitting on my couch wondering what the hell I would do with them all. I didn’t call the ex! Instead I called up one of my girl friends and asked her to gather some of her friends because I was coming over with some jewels for sale (shout out to Sinco). They were a seller and I was amazed and I decided to continue making jewels. It wasn’t until after about a year that I made it into a full running business which was in 2008! BTW my ex loves my designs; he was very supportive though we never got back together, so something good can come from a bad break up.

Tell us why your designs are unique.

I design ready-made, and custom pieces for all occasions, weddings, kids parties, photo shoots, or just a night out on the town with the ladies. What sets me apart from others is that my designs have never been seen before! The invisible look of some of my pieces has people in aw, so i had to patent my design. Also, when clients make a purchase, i have what is called RE- MIX Jewels, this is where within four months of your purchase if you get board of your design i will RE-MIX it into a different style using the same materials for no extra charge! That’s like getting a two for one deal! i love deals so why not give them away.

What Goals do you have for your company?

To have IL Jewels become a house hold name. I am now in negotiations with the designer of Simply Beautiful Designs, a clothing company where we will merge my Jewelry creations with her clothing line.

Tell us about any other ventures you are involved in that readers should know.

I am also an Actor and I have been performing for over 14yrs. I love the arts and that is where my heart is. I also do a lot of writing and I have yet to put my work out there but they will soon make an appearance. I wrote a book titled “Quite Kid” it’s a parental guild that can, and should be read to children, it a little book with big issues, also has interesting illustrations. I would like to do self publishing and will be looking for the support of my friends, fans, family, and the public. last but not least, I own a healthy coffee company called Top God Coffee.com we have 5 major products that you may checkout on my website, we also send out free samples so holla at me.

Name another Canadian designer which you admire.

I love the clothing made by Shkank , I have been shopping there for years. They now alter and design the piece right in front of you in their store.

Have you had a ‘moment for life’ moment, in your career?

If so explain what it was, if not what would it be? I have not had one yet, but my imagination takes me to a place where I am mingling with the likes of the Queen Latifah’s, and Mary j Blige’s of the world, where they are requesting my designs. I admire both of those ladies and that would be an honor. That would be my moment for life.

Tell SHESOFAB what has been your drive towards success?

My drive for success is my son kofi. I want him to see that an abundant life is possible for him to have, do, and become anything his heart desires. I will give him the best education, and a world of travel…just the best of everything. He is my driving force.

How do you balance your career and being a mother and a wife?

Some may say it is difficult but it has not been that way for me. In my mind I like to think of myself as a balanced so I do not let my career come before my family. Family always comes first for me, right after the love of God.

What is the best advice you can give young women who have children who have dreams to fulfill?

Don’t try, just do. NEVER give up. Take care of your health, so you can take care of your kids. Show them (kids) that you can do it, so they know that they too can do it, and don’t feed into negative bull shit, positive attracts positive.

Why are you a fabulous woman?

I am a fabulous woman because of many reasons (LoL) but I will just give you a few. I believe in myself and others. I respect the talents of others and I let them know it, but best of all, I know there is a God that guides me and I trust Him, He makes me Fabulous!

Fabulous woman are always on the move, but we believe they should always make time to unwind.

What are your favorite leisure activities? Oh girl!! I love bubble baths with Lush products, the colors and scents set me off. Just need candles, a glass of wine, and I’m set, ready for romance (wink). Dancing is also a great way for me to unwind. Believe it or not, I’m not a good dancer, but I do it anyway.

Name one place every woman should travel to.

Thailand, especially in April, it’s beautiful, spiritual, hot, and the people are very friendly. Sawadika!

What is your favorite thing to do in your city?

I love live music so anytime there is a concert I am there! Live jazz and RnB are my favorite. Comedy shows are always an activity I enjoy and of course dancing, its better at house parties though.

Name the best book you have ever read.

Honest, the Bible, it’s a guidance for me.

What is the most important advice you have ever been given?

To Love myself and never give up.

Tell us something you have learned with age.

I’m not that old…. but I can say, over the years I’ve noticed that people are not always who they claim to be, most of the time it’s all a front. Now I just let people show themselves and not be surprised of their actions. Just keep it moving and do ME.

What would you tell a woman who doesn’t believe she is fabulous?

Look around you girl, you have life and if you don’t think you’re Fab then no one else will. So put on some lipstick and blush and go find yourself, or you can come hang out with me for a while.

How can our readers connect with you?

Welcome to December – First let me begin by saying Congratulations you made it to the end of 2012! Breath and take a moment to soak it all in. How was it? Love it? Hate it? I thought it was ok but Im ready to jump into a new year! Well before we jump the gun, this month I want you to make it a habit to celebrate life. We all know life may be stressful but tomorrow is never a guarantee therefore live for the moment and enjoy the blessings that you are given. Health in tack? Shelter over your head? bills paid? family is happy? If so, you have many reasons to be thankful. If you find yourself falling short of something write it down and make it your aim to gain. Go a bit further and be thankful you are alive to get another shot at making your life the way you desire it to be.

December is a month which always seems magical to me. Besides the pretty Christmas lights, 24 hour Walmarts, and my birthday I simply love the fact that my family will be gathering together over good food, movies and the sharing of great memories. I want our readers to be excited about celebrating life at all times. But Keneisha everyday wont be the same you say? Well here is a lil trick I taught myself this year. When things don’t seem to be going my way I say to myself ‘Think about the bigger picture Keneisha!” The big picture is that life goes on and nothing lasts forever, therefore be quick to let things roll off your back and keep moving forward because there is something bigger to fulfill. No matter where you are in your life right now, there is so much room for it to get even better.

My family and I sponsor a young Girl from Africa named Lariba. A few weeks ago my son said to me “Mommy can we send Lariba some toys in the mail?” My sons generosity made my heart smile and it also made me realize the many ways we celebrate life – its not just on our own account but the way in which we extend to others. Although we aren’t able to send the toys in the mail as David suggested, the very spirit of extending our hands to others gives us a sincere appreciation for life and the way others experience it.. I don’t mean walking around giving toys to everyone but a simple phone call, or even volunteering can go a long way. 2012 was an incredible year for growth, in all honesty it wasn’t all smooth sailing, but the good and bad helped me learn lessons which I will cherish forever.

Here are a few of my 2012 Growth Lessons (In no particular order)

1. Show your appreciation always and If someone means a lot to you tell them

2. Learn how to let go of something that doesn’t grow with you, but rather keeps you locked in the past

3. Who you are may not always resonate well with others – the main importance is that you know who you are.

4. Tell God EACH day why you are thankful for his blessings

5. Reflect on your day and ask yourself what you learned

6 .Forgiving someone for hurting you is a pact between you and God, the party being forgiven does not have to be involved.

7. Great friends don’t make you feel like less of a person ever

8. Change can be hard to adjust to and you will relapse but catch your focus and remind yourself of why change is important – Own your imperfections

9. God does not want you to be concerned with your future because he has it all in control – in other words put your trust in your believer

10 .Step out of your comfort zone

11. The world is filled with empty distractions, know what you stand for and stick to it.

12. bless others with your blessings

13 .Keep a mental honesty box – be honest with yourself about yourself and be a self improving project

14. Find reasons to smile if the day seems sour

15. Just because someone has done great things for you, is not a reason to keep them around if they disrespect you

16 .Let it roll off your back and keep it moving, you have faced tougher and you have bigger fish to catch

What Are yours???
